DHAKA, Aug 24: Ivy Rahman, the women affairs secretary of the opposition Awami League, who received fatal injuries in the Saturday's grenade attacks, died in the early hours of Tuesday after three days of fight for life in the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka.
Senior physicians who had been treating Ms Rahman since Saturday night declared her dead at 3:00am, the hospital sources said. She was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with one of her legs blown off during the attacks on an AL rally at Bangabanbdhu Avenue that left 18 killed and wounded 200 others.
She was shifted to the CMH on Saturday night but her condition continued to deteriorate and she had been kept on life support since Monday. Different political leaders and eminent personalities including the president, the prime minister and the leader of the opposition in parliament offered deep condolences at the death.
She will be buried at the Banani graveyard. She was 60 and leaves behind husband, who is a presidium member of the Awami League, a son, two daughters and 95-year-old mother.
