PESHAWAR, Aug 22: Chief Minister Akram Durrani has directed the Afghan refugees commissioner to prepare a report on the assets of vacated refugee camps, including tents and vehicles.
He also sought information about tubewells in the camps, which had cost millions of rupees and also inquired about the Korean mobile health units, which were given to the tribal areas.
The chief minister issued the directives at a briefing on refugees held here at the Frontier House on Saturday, said an official handout. Afghan Refugees Commissioner Jamshedul Hassan gave the briefing while Chief Secretary Ijaz Ahmad Qureshi and Home Secretary Abdul Karim Kasuria were also present.
Mr Durrani said that the equipment of the vacated Afghan refugee camps should be utilized for the welfare of the people. He said that the equipment could be used in education and health sectors.
About the water supply schemes, the chief minister said that a tubewell costs Rs2.2 million but the tubewells installed in refugees camps had cost Rs6.5 million each. Expressing anguish over wastage of resources, he directed a detailed report on the tube-wells.
