SUKKUR: Teachers' protest

Published August 22, 2004

SUKKUR, Aug 21: On the call of the Education Alliance, teachers and students of Kandhkot on Saturday took out a procession and staged a sit-in on the National Highway, demanding to make Kandhkot a separate district, instead of Kashmor.

Speaking on the occasion, Primary Teachers' Association leader Mushtaq Dahani, Sadaruddin Marhata, Government Secondary Teachers' Association leader Mohammad Panjal Shaikh and others said Kandhkot was being ignored on political basis.

They opposed the plan to make Kashmor a new district and warned that they would hold protest demonstrations if the Sindh government did not make Kandhkot a district.

Residents of Kandhkot, led by Taluka Nazim Malguzar Khan Suhriani and Shehri Ittehad president Rasheed Ahmad Sial, also took out a procession in favour of making Kandhkot a district.

Later, some 50 people observed a token hunger strike for four hours at the Library Chowk.
