Our bowlers have come of age: Inzamam

UTRECHT, Aug 20: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq On Friday said his "irrepressible" bowling attack has got measure of strong Indian batting line-up and would pose a serious challenge to Sourav Ganguly and his batsmen in tri-nation one-day cricket tournament starting on Saturday.

Inzamam said tight leash under which his bowlers kept star-studded Indian line-up in recent Asia Cup in Sri Lanka was an indication that Pakistani pacers were beginning to show "new discipline and commitment" which they had lacked in the past.

"It looks like contest would be between our bowlers and their batsmen. I was very happy the way they (bowlers) picked up in Sri Lanka - bowling within themselves and in right channels. This is Thing which we didn't do against Indians at home," he said.

India take on Pakistan in opening match of tri-series on Saturday before clashing with Ricky Ponting's Australia on Monday. Pakistan face off with the Aussies on Wednesday before the final On Aug 28.

Inzamam said other areas in which his side had made considerable improvement since arrival of Bob Woolmer as coach was fitness and fielding. "If we appear sharp and energetic in the field, it is because we are getting fitter. Thats been main area of thrust since induction of Bob Woolmer as coach.

"We are not doing anything specific but are just getting regular with fitness routine we have been provided with. There is also no restriction on food as such," Inzamam said.

Pakistan failed to make it to Asia Cup final also contested by India and Sri Lanka. But Inzamam's men remained unbeaten in four of five matches in the tournament. They beat Indians convincingly by 59 runs in Super League stage But Ganguly's men pipped them to final only on basis of points won. -PPI
