KARACHI, Aug 18: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Syed Zawar Hussain Jaffery, on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition against detention of Abdul Karim Mehboob , a Pakistani arrested on suspicion of being a wanted Al-Qaeda leader Abu Moasab Arochi.

When the matter was taken up, the petitioner's counsel Khawaja Naveed Ahmed could not appear before the court. The court on non-appearance of the counsel fixed the matter for a date to be fixed by the office.

His wife Ms Jamila alleged that the law-enforcement agencies arrested Karim on June 12 from House R-1851, Block 14, F B Area on suspicion of being Arochi, the nephew of most wanted Al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheikh, who mastermind Sept 11 attack in New York and Washington on whom the US government announced a reward of US$10,00,000.

It was submitted in the petition that the law-enforcement agencies had arrested Abdul Karim on a mistaken identity under name of Abu Moasab Arochi, saying the detenue is a Pakistani, who was settled in Kuwait and who kept on visiting Pakistan from time to time and he has four daughters Zaib, Bushra, Huda, Yusra and a son Abir. The interior ministry is accused of having knowledge about the whereabouts of the detenue.

The arrest of Abu Mosab Arochi Aroochi was shown after raids in F B area Karachi besides as many as nine activists of Jundullah were arrested from Al-Falah area for their alleged links with Al-Qaeda and in connection with the attack on Corps Commander's motorcade and law-enforcers' killing cases. -PPI
