No wheat shortage: Jatoi

KARACHI, Aug 17: Sindh Minister for Food Arif Mustafa Jatoi on Tuesday denied any shortage of wheat in the province, and observed that its prices had also stabilized. He was responding to a supplementary question during questions hour in the Sindh Assembly.

The questioner, Nasrullah Shaji of MMA, wanted to know the position of wheat supplies and prices. He was of the view that a shortage had resulted in increase in wheat prices.

The minister said that in order to maintain reserved stocks, the provincial government had sought 0.5 million tonnes of wheat from the TCP. He said another quantity of 0.2 million tonnes was being requisitioned. He said that in certain districts, wheat prices stood at Rs12.50 per kg while in some other districts it was Rs14 per kg.
