LAHORE, Aug 17: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) on Tuesday repaired the 10-inch distribution pipeline which was affected by a blast on Monday night. The repairs were completed at 11.20am on Tuesday, after almost 14 hours of the blast.
According to preliminary investigations, it was a case of sabotage. "The shape of the pipe proves that it did not blast from internal pressure," says an official of the company. Had it been the case, the pipe would have bent outside. But since the pipe turned inside, it was a clear indication of sabotage.
Company workers have also found some fuses at the blast site, which further proves the point. But the full report would be available in seven days, only then the company would be in a position to comment on the situation with full certainty, he said.
Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Nauraiz Shahkoor has ordered an inquiry into the blast and asked for a report in seven days. According to company officials, there was no disruption of supply to the area because of a six-inch pipeline running parallel to the damaged one.
