SANGHAR, Aug 16: Farmers of Deh Dubbi-II, whose lands were acquired by the provincial government for the Chhotiari Reservoir, blocked the Ranto escape bridge on Monday and staged a sit-in to protest against non-payment of compensation.

The protesters said that during survey for the reservoir, their lands were initially excluded and later included in the scheme with a compensation of Rs85,000 per acre.

However, the reservoir was completed without any compensation to them, and when they protested against it, they were beaten up and detained by the police, they regretted.

As the lands were still in their possession, they cultivated various crops during the current season, they said and alleged that irrigation officials, without prior notice, released water through the Ranto Canal some two weeks back, inundating their crops standing over hundreds of acres.

Asserting that they would not vacate their lands until compensation was paid, they appealed to the President, Prime Minister and the chief minister to provide them with justice.

KARO-KARI: A man surrendered himself before the police on Monday, after killing a person on the pretext of karo-kari in Sahib Dino Sehto village, near Kurkaly, on Sunday.
