QUETTA: Bid to smuggle arms foiled

QUETTA, Aug 14: The Frontier Corps foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of arms and ammunition and drugs into Pakistan and sized a big consignment of weapons near the Pakistan-Iran border on Thursday night.

"A consignment of illegal arms and ammunition was dumped underground in Saiban area close to border of Iran and Pakistan," a senior officer of the Frontier Corps said, adding that no gun-runner could be arrested.

Sources said that FC troops moved into Saiban area and launched a search during which a huge quantity of arms and ammunition and morphine was founded dumped underground.

The seizure include 1500 kg of fine quality morphine, RPG-7 rockets 43, anti-tank mines 2, SMG rifles 3, RPG-7 Gun 1, 40 MM rockets 20, mortar gun 82 MM 16, hand grenade 4, tank machine gun 1, LMG rounds 360, AGF gun shells 17, 40.5 gun rounds 1270, rounds of 12-7 gun 1835, explosive detonators 8, 107 MM fuse 2 and automatic rifles 2.
