KARACHI: Petroman strike continues

Published August 14, 2004

KARACHI, Aug 13: Teaching at the Petroman educational institutions remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day, Friday, as employees continued their protest against non-payment of salaries.

An office-bearer of the Employees' Action Committee, leading the protest, criticized the indifferent attitude of the administration. Parents of the institutions' students have expressed concern over the prolonged suspension of academic activities.

The committee has reportedly approached the local head, as well as the controlling authorities, of Petroman to apprise him of the employees' plight. It has appealed for the disbursement of their salaries outstanding since May.

The committee has also appealed to the federal IT minister to take cognizance of the situation. It announced that the affected employees, along with their families, would stage a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club on August 16.
