SIALKOT: EDO's transfer cancelled in six days - Row in Sialkot
By Our Correspondent
SIALKOT, Aug 13: Cancellation of transfer orders of the EDO (education) by the provincial government after six days of the decision has sparked row between him and the new official appointed to the post, it is learnt on Friday.
The situation has disrupted the working of the department for the last three days. According to reports, the district government had transferred to Lahore the 'most influential' EDO (education), Mirza Muhammad Iqbal, for his alleged involvement in corruption.
The government succeeded in transferring him after a struggle of three months. The decision was hailed, as District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed and other officials congratulated each other during the council's special session three days ago.
The Nazim told the house that the district government had finally succeeded in getting rid of the 'corrupt' official. Educationist Riaz Ahmad Cheema replaced him as the EDO.
However, some of the MPAs belonging to the district resented the decision because of their support for Mr Iqbal. In a surprise move three days ago, the provincial government cancelled the transfer orders of the EDO and brought him back to the same post.
Now Mr Cheema and Mr Iqbal are at variance with each other about the issue and both have locked the offices of the EDO's complex. The former has got the official vehicles parked at some unknown places.
Meanwhile, the teachers and the clerical staff working in the offices are awaiting any decision. When contacted, a district government spokesman declined to give his version. Meanwhile, senior educationists have accorded warm welcome to Mr Iqbal on his return.
