KARACHI, Aug 12: A middle-aged man was killed while resisting a dacoity in Malir on Thursday morning. Police said that a group of robbers was on a looting spree near Murad Memon Goth near cattle market.
As two persons, Abdul Wahab and Naeemuddin, tried to pose resistance to the robbers, the suspects opened fire and fled from the scene with a substantial amount of cash, under heavy gunfire, injuring the both.
The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Naeemuddin died during treatment, while Abdul Wahab was admitted being treated.
BODIES FOUND: Body of a young man was recovered from storm water drain in the Rizvia Society from a storm water drain on Thursday. Police said that the victim, Amjad Husain, 32, had gone missing after he went out of his house along with a friend, Asif Ahmed, few days ago.
On Thursday, his body was recovered from the drain. The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the post-mortem examination. The police have detained Asif Ahmed and are investigating the case.
A body of an unidentified young man was recovered from a drain in Orangi Extension on Wednesday. Police said that the body was recovered from a drain in Shams Colony located in the Orangi Extension.
HIJACKING BID: The Motorway Police on late Tuesday night foiled a bid to hijack a PSO oil tanker at Nooriabad, after an 'encounter' with the armed suspects.
Inspector Rizwan of the MP told Dawn that an oil tanker (TTA-627) carrying 22,000 litres of diesel worth Rs5 lakhs was heading for the Punjab when at Nooriabad a group of nine armed suspects intercepted the vehicle, taking hostage its driver Shaukat and cleaner Shahid Iqbal.
A Motorway Police party during its routine patrolling spotted the suspects and raised alarm, on which the suspects opened fire ensuing an encounter, the inspector claimed. However, after a shootout, which lasted for at least half an hour, the suspects fled from the spot abandoning the vehicle, he added. A case had been lodged at the Nooriabad police station.
