President to 'take off' uniform

By Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Aug 11: Gen Pervez Musharraf is determined to take off his uniform, claims a delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association which met him in Islamabad the other day.

Talking to reporters at the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday, CPA acting chairman Hashim Abdul Haleem said Gen Musharraf had assured them at the meeting that he would part with his uniform of his own accord and not on the dictation of anyone else.

"I shall take the decision keeping in view the requirement of the situation," he quoted the president as saying. He would not give details saying the deadline for the issue was Dec 31 and it was premature to discuss it now.

Deputy speaker Shaukat Husain Mazari told reporters that parliament had given Gen Musharraf time to take off his uniform by Dec 31 and now the general was to take a final decision on it.
