Equal uplift chances to N. Areas assured

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11: Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday assured a delegation from the Northern Areas of equal uplift opportunities to bring the region at par with the developed part of the country.

The team, led by Federal Minister for Northern Areas and Kashmir Affairs Dr Ghazi Gulab Jamal and comprising the elected representatives from the region, called on him at the Prime Minister's House.

The prime minister assured the delegation that the government was taking special measures to expedite uplift activities in the Northern Areas. Developmental schemes, he said, would be initiated in the region under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme and in consultation with the representatives of the areas. In the schemes, the areas which had so far been ignored would be given priority, he added.

The premier also mentioned efforts for promoting tourism in the region through the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation. The delegation on this occasion appreciated the role the prime minister for the betterment of the region. The representatives drew the attention of the prime minister to the problems of health, education and communication in their respective areas.

FAN MANUFACTURERS: A team of fan manufacturers and exporters from Gujrat also called on the premier on Wednesday. He said Pakistani products had a great potential for export and the government was providing facilities to boost their exports.

The PM directed the ministry of petroleum to provide gas to furniture makers of Gujrat to help them install their seasoning plants. The commerce minister, who was present on the occasion, told the delegation that the government in its new trade policy had given many concessions to facilitate export.

bodies of Pakistanis: Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has taken serious notice of the dead bodies of Pakistani labourers reportedly lying and decaying on the mountains of Muscat, adds PPI.

He also took notice of he misbehaviour with Pakistani nationals in the Middle East and Arab countries and asked the Pakistani embassies to ensure respect of every national, said a press release issued by Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International.

The release said that the prime minister on Wednesday contacted Ansar Burney on telephone and discussed the matter. Lauding the efforts of Mr Burney, Mr Hussain asked him to go to Muscat to collect all the bodies and make arrangements for their funeral. The prime minister directed the Pakistan embassy at Muscat to provide all necessary assistance to Mr Burney in this regard. -PPI
