SUKKUR, Aug 8: The entire upper Sindh and half of Balochistan sank into darkness when a major fault hit the Guddu Power Station after midnight (12.30am) on Sunday.

Sukkur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroz, and other parts of interior of Sindh, and a major area of Balochistan suffered badly in the absence of power supply where mercury hovered at 42 degree centigrade.

Sources in Hesco told Dawn that seven power generators were running at Guddu of which three had tripped. Engineers were busy repairing the machines but full restoration of power supply was thought to take two to three hours' effort.
