'People won't become part of conspiracies'

QUETTA, Aug 7: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf said on Saturday that progressive and patriotic people of the province had rejected politics of self-interest and refused to become a part of conspiracies hatched against the province by certain elements.

Speaking at the 53rd passing-out parade of police and levies officers and recruits at the Police Training Collage, he said: "Balochistan is a strong part of Pakistan and our existence is linked with Pakistan."

He said the people of Balochistan were ready to render sacrifices for the protection of Pakistan and its solidarity. He said the people of the province would not tolerate conspiracies against the country.

He said certain elements were trying to create disturbance in the province and stop the development process launched by the government. He said those elements were enjoying the support of those who had not yet accepted the creation of Pakistan.

"These elements wanted to destroy the peaceful atmosphere of the province and hinder development activities," Jam Yousuf said.

He said the nationalist parties did not oppose the construction of Gwadar Port, Mirani Dam and Coastal Highway when they were in power.

The chief minister said the government was aware of its responsibilities regarding protection of life and property of the people and supremacy of law.

He said the government was implementing an effective strategy to deal strictly with terrorists and anti-social elements.

He said that government had made efforts to make police an effective force.

He said the federal government had initiated reforms for improving the performance of police.

He said the responsibilities of police and levies had increased in view of recent terrorist attacks.

He urged the police and levies recruits to play their role in rooting out terrorism form the province.

He said the government would provide more training facilities to the police and levies and the police training centre at Kalat would be revived soon.

The chief minister announced that a 40 per cent allowance would be paid to officials of the anti-terrorism force, the training collage and the crimes investigation department.

He increased the ration allowance of police officers from Rs390 to Rs760. He donated Rs300,000 for the bara khana of police.

Balochistan police chief Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob said 1,800 police and levies officers, including women, were given four-month training.

He said efforts were being made for restoring confidence between the police and the people.
