HYDERABAD, Aug 5: Seven women, who had escaped from the Hyderabad Darul Aman, were medically examined at the Hyderabad Civil Hospital on Thursday. The hospital's medico-legal officer, Dr Sabira Sultana, carried out the medical examination, report of which would be given in three to four days.

Ultrasound, gynaecological and urine tests of the women were also conducted. The Qasimabad investigation police brought the women to the hospital from Karachi. The women were taken back to Karachi by police on Thursday night.

The coordinator of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan's Special Task Force for Sindh, Nasreen Shakeel Pathan, Naheed Syed of the Aurat Foundation and Nighat Taufiq of the Shirkat Gah were present at the hospital.

Zahida told journalists that she did not want to go to her home or Darul Aman as she wanted to live an independent life. She said Sindh Women's Development Minister Dr Saeeda Malik had not met inmates individually and had talked to them in presence of officials, therefore, they could not disclose atrocities committed against them.

She said the remaining four women at Darul Aman were tight- lipped because they were 'imprisoned' there. Parveen said no one from her family had visited her at Darul Aman. Shesaid she had been subjected to rape outside and inside Darul Aman and she was not produced before the court.

The entire management of Darul Aman was reshuffled on Wednesday following registration of a criminal case against the assistant director and probation officer of Darul Aman.

The driver, clerk and a woman night guard have also been removed from Darul Aman. It was learnt that two officials of the women's development ministry, Aisha Zia and Shahnaz, and the former assistant director of Darul Aman, Madam Shams, visited Darul Aman.

They obtained relevant record and met the four remaining inmates. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad District Council at its Thursday session condemned the atrocities against the women. Firdaus Abro moved a resolution, seeking an inquiry into the matter and action against Darul Aman officials.
