FAISALABAD, Aug 4: A tug of war has been going on between the Nazim and the Naib Nazim of Saddar tehsil municipal administration due to differences over the allocation of development projects and award of contracts.

The tussle took a serious turn on Wednesday when tehsil Nazim Muhammad Afzal refused to allow convener/Naib Nazim Zahid Rasheed to run affairs according to agenda items, claiming that the same was being done without the consultation of the councillors and in violation of the rules.

Both exchanged hot words and threatened each other with dire consequences. Mr Afzal claimed that his group was in a position to replace the convener with some other person.

The tehsil Nazim was of the view that some agenda items had been included without his consent, which was a violation of the rules. Refuting his claim, Mr Rasheed asked the Nazim to use his right of presenting agenda items before the house so that the business could be run smoothly.

Pandemonium was observed in the house due to noisy speeches of councillors belonging to both the groups. The convener accused the Nazim of awarding contracts for collection of fee and taxes to his favourites as well as approving various uplift schemes in his areas. Later, Mr Rasheed adjourned the session till 10th of this month.
