KHAIRPUR: Protesters demand arrest of killers

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Aug 4: The Solangi tribesmen took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest against the police failure to arrest killers of seven members of a family, belonging to their community.

The seven members of a family of the Solangi tribe were killed two weeks ago. Led by Mukhtiar Solangi, Naib Nazim of the Jilani union council, the procession started from the Civic Centre area, marched on the Mall Road and terminated at the local press club.

The protesters were demanding removal of the DSP of Pir-jo- Goth. They gave a three-day ultimatum to police to arrest the killers, threatening that otherwise thy would stage a sit-in on the National Highway.

Meanwhile, tension is still prevailing in the Kot Pul area of Kingri taluka as the Solangi-Jagirani dispute has not been settled. The situation has badly affected trade and educational activities in the area.

The trading centres of Wadda Machhyoon and Kot Pul are still lying closed as a result daily wage earners like labourers and donkey and horse cart drivers have been badly affected.

After the reopening of schools on August 1 following summer vacations, attendance of teachers and students is very thin in the area schools. Sources in the DPO office told this correspondent that deployment of more Rangers and police in the area had been recommended to the higher authorities.
