KARACHI, Aug 3: The Pakistan Muslim League, Sindh chapter, has embarked upon a '100-day strategy' to activate workers and reorganize the party from grassroots to provincial level to mobilize the cadre for the upcoming local government elections.

Provincial Minister for Revenue and Political Affairs, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, in his capacity as the Sindh PML Secretary General, stated this while speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said that the reorganization process under the strategy included setting up of offices and nomination of office-bearers at district level. To begin with, he added, four PML offices would be set up in Hyderabad by August 14.

The party high command had been requested to visit the district level offices and address party workers to infuse a new spirit in them. When asked why was the PML-F chief, Pir Saheb Pagara, was opposing him as the secretary general of the unified PML's Sindh chapter, Mr Shaikh said this question should be asked to Pir Saheb. He, however, added that the Pir Saheb was his elder and that he used to visit him to seek his blessings.

"The decision to elevate me to the secretary general was taken by the party high command and being a loyal member of the PML, I am discharging my duty to reactivate party workers and activate all those colleagues who are disappointed due to the prevailing situation and have quit politics."

Mr Shaikh said that in order to resolve the problems being faced by party workers in his department, he had appointed a coordinator, Farooq Awan, who would look after their interests. "The party high command has been advised to appoint such coordinators in other departments as well."

In reply to a question, the minister revealed that all orders pertaining to postings and assigning of senior posts to juniors in the revenue department had been cancelled. Giving reason, he explained that in presence of the cadre officers, posting of junior officers was not only a violation of prescribed rules but also a cause of heart-burning and resentment among seniors.

Earlier, Imtiaz Shaikh issued a statement declaring that the PML would celebrate Independence Day in a befitting manner and had chalked out a three-day programme starting August 14.
