PPP criticizes Aziz's policies

By Our Correspondent

MITHI, Aug 3: Leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro has alleged that Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz's policies have given rise to unemployment, inflation and frustration leading desperate people to suicide.

Speaking at a news conference at Malani House here on Tuesday, he said: "Mr Aziz has assured the president that if he is made prime minister, he will bring a loan of Rs25 billion from international donors for the construction of five dams including Kalabagh dam, which is likely to keep our next five generations under heavy debt."

He said that Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had been claiming that he had taken stand against the Kalabagh Dam and the Greater Thal canal but he had never uttered a single word against the canal.

He said that it was a dream of Dr Rahim to get Mr Aziz elected unopposed from NA-229 Tharparkar-I, however, as the dream had not materialized because ARD had fielded a candidate, the CM had started victimising opponents.

Giving examples, he referred to the closure of the water channels through which land of PPP leaders Pir Aftab Jilani, Mir Hayat Talpur and Nawab Yousuf Talpur were irrigated.

The People's Party Parliamentarian leader said that Dr Rahim was using coercive language and harassing PPP workers and supporters of which the Election Commission should take notice.

He announced that the leaders of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy and the PPP would soon arrive in Thar to take part in the campaign of PPP candidate Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani. They would address a public gathering in Mithi on August 5, he added. Mr Talpur, Mr Jilani Gyanchand and others were present at the news conference.
