KARACHI, Aug 3: The police on Monday submitted final charge-sheet against two workers of the Jundullah group in a case pertaining to the hijacking of a Hi-lux coaster which was later used in the attack on corps commander's convoy.
The Gulshan-i-Iqbal police submitted the charge-sheet against Shahzad Bajwa and Najeebullah in the court of Judicial Magistrate, East, Ms Zabiha Khattak, who referred the case to the sessions court for trial.
It was alleged that the two Jundullah activists hired the coaster from a rent-a-car showroom in Liaquatabad and asked the driver to pick them up from their Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence early in the morning.
The two were taken by the driver from their residence accordingly and the accused hijacked the vehicle at gunpoint from the driver. They sedated the driver and threw him near a park in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
ACTIVIST ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, South, Syed Saeed Hasan, acquitted a worker of the banned Sipah-i-Mohammedi in a case pertaining to possession of unlicensed weapon.
The activist, Hasan Ali, was earlier acquitted by an anti- terrorism court in a murder case. The case pertaining to the weapon allegedly recovered from the accused was tried by the session court.
BOMB BLAST CASE: An anti-terrorism court put off the hearing of the Macedonian Consulate bomb blast case against nine workers of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Aalmi after recording statements of two prosecution witnesses.
Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, fixed Aug 5 for the next hearing after statements by SIs Atique ur Rahman and Tasawwur Ameer.
The accused were charged with committing a bomb blast after stabbing two men and a woman to death on December 5, 2002, inside the honorary consulate of Macedonia, situated at the phase four of the DHA.
The accused are Syed Sohail Akhtar alias Mustafa, Zafar Iqbal alias Sohail, Naeem Rafi alias Nimmi, Mohammed Atif, Sameerullah alias Somi, Mohammed Khalid alias Shahzad, Abdur Razzaq alias Bhiya, Syed Ahmed Kazmi alias Shahbaz and Mehmoodullah.
According to the prosecution, the accused entered the consulate building late night and stabbed Hameed Hactor Masih, Mohammed Asif and Ghazala Perveen to death. They planted an explosive device which they detonated with a remote control after leaving the consulate. The intruders also took away a computer and printer from the spot.
They were charged with the offences under Section 302, 395 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Act and Section 7 (b) of the Anti-terrorism Act. The two prosecution witnesses were also cross examined by the defence counsel, M. R. Syed.
