Vijay Singh scores one-shot victory


GRAND BLANC, Aug 2: World number three Vijay Singh fired a five-under-par 67 to clinch a one-shot victory at the Buick Open on Sunday. The Fijian finished at 23-under-par 265 , ahead of former British Open and US PGA champion John Daly (66) at 22-under 266.

Tiger Woods (66) and Paraquay's Carlos Franco (66) tied for third a shot further back at 267, while Stewart Cink (66) finished solo fifth at 18-under 270.

Singh had Saturday's two-stroke 54-hole lead erased by Daly at the second hole on Sunday and trailed by a shot after Daly made birdie at the third.

Singh tied with Daly with a birdie at the 12th and reclaimed the outright lead with birdie at the par-four 14th before going on to win for the fourth time on the PGA Tour this season.

MALMO: Britain's Luke Donald won his first European Tour title with a five-shot victory at the Scandinavian Masters on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who plays most of his golf on the US PGA Tour, fired a three-under-par 69 for a 16-under total of 272 at the Barse back Golf and Country club.

Competing in only his ninth European Tour event as a professional, Donald birdied three of the last six holes to boost his chances of a place in the European team at next month's Ryder Cup.

Swedes Peter Hanson (71) and Henrik Stenson (69) shared second place while seven-time European number one Colin Montgomerie finished a further two strokes back in a tie for fourth after carding a seven-birdie 67.
