KHAIRPUR, Aug 2: The Abul Wah of the Khairpur West Feeder developed a 50 to 60 feet wide breach between RD-30 and RD-31 in Gambat on Monday. The water gushing out of the canal inundated crops of cotton, sugarcane and dates , standing over 200 acres of land.

The water was also threatening lower Paki Khohi and upper Paki Khohi villages. Houses of Naik Mohammad, Mohammad Bux Kalhoro, Sikandar Ali, Lal Dino Kalhoro, Mureed Hussain collapsed in the water.

The affected people said the breach occurred due to negligence of irrigation officials. Area residents were trying to plug the breach in the canal, which supplies water to Khairpur, Kingri and Gambat talukas, when this report was filed.

BAN: The district nazim has banned entry of cattle in canals in the Khairpur irrigation east division under section 144 CrPC. The area executive engineer had recommended the ban as entry cattle in the canals often led to breaches.

ROBBED: Three armed men robbed Ghulam Asghar Shar, Darogha of Pandhero Wah, Faiz Ganj, of his motorcycle on Monday.
