Amir to tackle Aaqib in final

ISLAMABAD, July 30: Amir Atlas and Aaqib Hanif set up a meeting in Saturday's under-19 final of the Hashim Khan National junior squash championship scoring semifinal victories over their respective rivals.

Aaqib knocked out Bilal Zaman 9-7, 10-8, 9-2 in the second semifinal of the day while Amir was stretched to four games by Shah Nawaz before winning 9-5, 5-9, 9-4, 9-4 in matches played at the Mushaf Squash Complex.

The under-17 final, also on Saturday will see Farzan Rashid take on Alamzeb Jr after both scored comfortable wins in the semifinals. Farzan's victim was Adnan Khan whom he downed 9-2, 9-4, 9-0 with ease while Alamzeb Jnr collected a 10-8, 9-1, 9-6 victory over Muhammad Naeem.

In the boys under-15 semifinals, Waqar Mehboob dropped a game against Asif Khan but that did not stop him winning 9-3, 9-2, 8- 10, 9-1. In the other prefinal Shoaib Hasan had it easy against Ayaz Khan and picked up a 9-0, 9-4, 9-4 win.

Danish Atlas and Farhan Zaman advanced to the final of the under-13 category with contrasting victories. It was not too difficult for Danish to oust Awais Khan 9-0, 9-7, 9-3 but Farhan had to go the distance in overcoming an stubborn Awais Rahim before claiming a 9-78, 9-10, 7-9, 9-3, 9-2 triumph.

Meanwhile, Sara Awan defeated Muqaddas Ashraf 9-6, 9-0, 10-9 and Maria Toor scored a 9-1, 9-3, 9-2 victory over Saima Shaukat, to move into the final. In the girls under-15 prefinals, Sana Batool blew Misbah Shaukat away with a 9-2, 9-1, 9-2 score as she set the stage for a clash in the final with Roshna Mehboob who beat Beenish Khan 9- 1, 9-5, 9-6.

Riffat Khan, who edged Aniqa Awan 5-9, 9-2, 9-3, 4-9, 9-6 and Ana Batool, a 9-4, 9-10, 9-5, 9-6 victor over Samar Anjum, qualified for the girls under-13 decider.
