NEW DELHI, July 30: A pilot made an emergency landing to save the life of a Pakistani baby whose critical heart condition worsened during a flight to Bangalore, an Indian Airlines spokesman said on Friday.

The pilot diverted the aircraft carrying the 10-day-old infant to the southern city of Hyderabad after the baby "turned blue," the spokesman of the state-owned airline said.

The baby was rushed to hospital where doctors stabilised his condition. Later the infant, Muhammed, his mother Asma Khan, and uncle Zahoor Ahmed Khan, continued their journey to Bangalore where the baby was due to undergo heart surgery.

India has become a popular low-cost destination in Asia for patients needing complicated operations, and as tensions ease between the two countries, New Delhi has made it easier for Pakistani children to be granted visas for medical treatment in India. -AFP
