SKARDU, July 30: The final celebrations in connection with the first ascent of K2 and 51st anniversary of Nanga Parbat would be held here on Aug 1, official sources said. The sources said that arrangements to this effect have been finalized.

Italian Agriculture Minister Giovanni Almanno and his team have reached the K2 base camp to participate in the finale of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Italian Deputy Finance Minister Mr Vegas, members of parliament and other delegations are also likely to be reaching here.

The ministers and members of Italian parliament would lay the foundation-stone of K2 museum at the PTDC Motel here on Aug 1. At the same time, the participants of the K2 Golden Jubilee celebrations would also attend a painting exhibition that would be inaugurated by Minister of State for Sports and Tourism Rais Munir Ahmed.

Later, a reception would be given in honour of the guests by the district administration, during which honorary certificates would be awarded to the summiteers of eight thousand feet peaks in Northern Areas.
