MANSHERA: Man held on murder charges

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, July 30: Police have arrested the main accused in a murder-cum-robbery case in Darband area in which a minority councillor was injured and his wife killed.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the SSP of Mansehra, Ehsan Tufail, said that the accused, Niazmeen, had worked at the shop of Chaman Lal (the councillor) for more than 14 years.

The SSP said that Niazmeen learnt that Mr Lal had Rs200,000, and the accused devised a plan to rob him of his money. On July 20, the accused and his accomplices broke into the house of the councillor.

The SSP said that Niazmeen had told the police that when he had been showing his accomplices the room where Mr Lal kept the money, the members of the household woke up and cried out for help. Mr Tufail said that the accused while fleeing opened fire on the household members, killing Taravati Devi.
