LAHORE, July 30: Reviewing the decision of conducting entrance tests for admission to all academic programmes for 2004-05, the Punjab University has decided to process admissions on an open merit according to the last year's policy.

The PU's admission committee had decided last month to conduct entrance tests for admission to all its programmes for the forthcoming academic session. The PU's admission committee meeting, chaired by Prof Dr Dil Muhammad Malik, had decided that the entrance test would have 30 per cent weight age while academic record 70 per cent weight age.

It had also decided that the candidates would be required to secure at least 40 per cent marks in the entrance test. The university had also announced that it would display the test samples and outlines a week before the examination on notice boards of respective departments.

However, the decision drew strong reaction from the student body as well as candidates planning to seek admission to different classes. The Islami Jamiat Tulaba had also demonstrated to mark its protest against the PU admission committee's decision and demanded that it should be withdrawn.
