HYDERABAD, July 29: The Qasimabad police on Thursday registered a case against three persons following the murder of Jeay Sindh Students Federation activist Gul Mohammad Bhatti and injuries caused to Saleem Channa on Wednesday night.
The FIR was lodged by the deceased's father, Mevo Khan alias Parwana Bhatti, with the Qasimabad police against Dr Mazhar Memon, Jan Mohammad Junejo and an unidentified person under sections 302 and 324 of the PPC.
The complainant said the murder followed an exchange of hot words between his son and the accused. Talking to journalists on Wednesday night, residents of the Abdullah Centre, where Gul Mohammad Bhatti lived, also said that Jan Mohammad had exchanged hot words with Mr Bhatti and the situation took a violent turn when Dr Memon intervened in the matter.
The body was taken to Tando Mohammad Khan, native town of the deceased. A large number of JSSF and JSQM activists participated in the funeral. Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Qureshi, who arrived from Karachi, warned that his party would resort to protest if the accused were not arrested.
Situation in the area was tense as Dr Memon is also living in the Abdullah Centre. Shops in Qasiambad and Tando Mohammad Khan remained closed. A heavy contingent of police has been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
The Qasimabad investigation police picked up Shabbir Hussain Memon, brother of Dr Memon, in the Al-Mustafa town. Ghulam Sarwar Memon, another brother of Dr Memon, filed a human rights application before the sessions judge of Hyderabad, praying the court for recovery of his arrested brother.
The court appointed Tariq Hashmani as the raid commissioner who paid a surprise visit to the Qasimabad police station and found Shabbir Memon in illegal detention. The court fixed the matter for Friday with directives to the in charge, investigation wing, Lal Bux Lashari, to appear before the court for explanation.
