KARACHI, July 29: A teachers' training programme has been launched under the education sector reforms for primary schools in Sindh, said a press release on Thursday.

The programme was launched in a meeting presided over by Anwar Ahmed Zai, additional secretary education Sindh. EDOs and their staff from Hyderabad, Thatta, Sukkur, Khairpur - the districts earmarked for training - also attended.

The programme of two and half years would be conducted by a consortium of organisations including the University of Sindh, PITE, Notre Dame Institute of Education, Indus Resource Centre and Jamia Millia.

The project includes training of 3,000 school heads and district administrators in order to bring out a change in the environment of primary schools. Chairman of the consortium Dr Ismail Saad emphasized the role of teachers in primary education, and underlined professional development as the key factor for quality.

Dr Waseem Qazi informed the guests about the size and scope of the programme, which envisages training of in-service teachers of union councils of the said districts.

ESRA representative Fawad Shams and Iffat Nayyer said the training was meant to strengthen and reinforce the Sindh government's initiative under the education sector reform. Riaz Ahmed, chief, Faran Education Society, highlighted the core objectives of the programme. - PPI
