WANA, July 28: One minor girl was killed and two army troops were wounded in a midnight rocket attack on the Wana scouts camp in the South Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday.

In a related development, political authorities have imposed a night curfew in several parts of the volatile region. According to a notification issued here on Wednesday, the authorities have issued shoot at sight order if any person isfound violating the curfew.

People in Azam Warsak, Shah Alam, Shin Warsak, Dab Koat, Gangikhel, Zari Noor, Raghzai, Tiarza and Machen Baba have been asked not to come out of their homes after 8pm.

Sources said that the fresh directives had been issued due to growing night attacks on army troops and public property in the region where security forces had been conducting operation against foreign and tribal militants for the two years.

Residents in Wana said that militants fired five rockets on the scouts camp from an undisclosed location. One rocket hit the house of a sepoy inside the camp, which killed a minor girl.

They said that the other two rockets landed near a military outpost, wounding two army troops and partially damaging the vehicle in the camp. Security forces also retaliated and intense exchange of fire between the law enforcement agencies and militants continued for more than a hour.

Despite huge military deployment, the situation is deteriorating in the region and security forces came under attack in some parts of South Waziristan. Witnesses said that militants fired rockets and missiles on security forces in Shakai, Ludha and Khamrang.

They said that a rocket slammed near the high school building in Shakai which had been occupied by security forces. The army troops retaliated with artillery from Tiarza fort. No casualty has been reported.
