Meetings against Kalabagh planned

By Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, July 28: The Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee will hold public meetings in Jacobabad and Dadu on Aug 8 and 29, respectively, to create awareness among people against Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held at the Citizen Colony residence of People's Party Parliamentarians leader MPA Syed Ali Nawaz Rizvi here on Tuesday. The convener of the committee and provincial president of the PPP, Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, presided over the meeting.

It was also decided to hold another public meeting in Karachi in October. Briefing journalists, Mr Khuhro said Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had given a statement against construction of the Kalabagh dam but Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, who was contesting the by-election from the Tharparkar constituency, had not spoken a single word about the dam.
