KARACHI, July 26: Police discharged Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed in corps commander's motorcade and Rangers van attack cases, as no evidence was found against them.
Police submitting final charge sheets on Monday against Jundullah activists before Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti- terrorism court stated that no evidence against the doctors was found, as they abetted the accused in the said cases.
A police report under Section 169 of CrPC was also filed which stated that investigation could not find any evidence against the doctors in said cases and they might be exonerated for want of evidence.
Earlier, the police charged them along with nine activists of Jundullah for allegedly attacking the motorcade of Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat on June 10 in Clifton, in which 10 people were killed, including six army personnel and three policemen, and 10 others were injured.
Along with Attaur Rehman and Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, they are also charged with attacking on Ranger's mobile van attack case in Ferozabad on March 19, in which two Rangers personnel were killed.
FUNDING CASE: Police submitted charge sheet against Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed on Monday in case pertaining to provision of funds, medical treatment and shelter to Al Qaeda and Jundullah activists.
Accepting the challan, Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti- terrorism court sent the case to ATC-II for its disposal according to law. The ATC-II will begin the trial on Aug 7.
Some Jundullah activists, arrested in connection of corps commander motorcade attack and killing of law enforcers and other bomb blast cases, during investigation disclosed that the doctors had close links with them and they were extending help by all means.
According to police, the doctors had sent Jundullah activists Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa and Muhammad Qasim to Wana through their personal assistant Kashif. Police stated that they went to Edia Khan, a militant of Wana having close links with Al-Qaeda, where they got training for using weapons and explosive devices.
Police alleged that the doctors gave asylum to Al-Qaeda members - Abul Hasab, Gul Hasan, Hasamul Sani - at different places in Karachi. It was further alleged that the doctors got Jundullah activist, Shahzad Bajwa, medically treated in Shan Hospital, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, who was injured after attacking Rangers van on March 19.
They said that the doctors made arrangement for medical treatment of the absconding co-accused Qasim, who was injured in corps commander attack case.
CHARGE-SHEETS: Police submitted charge-sheets against nine activists of Jundullah in cases pertaining to corps commander motorcade attack, law enforcers' killing, bomb blasts at Pak- American Cultural Center, Pakistan Bible Society and Marina Club.
Accepting the charge-sheets, Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti- terrorism court referred these cases to ATC-II for trial. The ATC-II will begin the trial against the accused on Aug 7.
Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah and Shahzad Mukhtar are charged with attacking on motorcade of Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat on June 10 in Clifton. Ten people were killed, including six army personnel and three policemen in the incident.
Adnan Shah, Muhammad Qasim, Rao Khalid, Shahab, Bilal, Tayab and Hammad were declared absconders in the charge-sheet. They were booked under sections 302, 324, 404, 34 of the PPC with Section 7 of Anti-terrorism Act, 1997 and sections 3,4 and 5 of Explosive Act.
Besides, they were also accused of killing five policemen at Gulistan-i-Jauhar Police Station on April 4. According to police, Najeebullah, Danish, Shoaib, Uzair Ahmed, Attaur Rehman and Shahzad Bajwa engineered two car bomb blasts near PACC on May 26, in which 37 people were injured.
Attaur Rehman, Shahzad Bajwa and Shahzad Mukhtar are also charged with planting a bomb in Suzuki hi-roof on Jan 15, in which 13 policemen including a DSP and SP were injured.
Attaur Rehman and Shahzad Bajwa are also charged with attacking on Rangers mobile in Ferozabad on March 19. Attaur Rehman, Shahzad Bajwa, Uzair Ahmed and Danish were booked in Darakhshan Police Station in Marina Club blast case. Attaur Rehman, Shahzad Bajwa, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib and Najeebullah are also charged with killing of two policemen, Shaukat Ali and Nawab Ali in Saudabad on June 24.
HIZBUL TEHRIR: Police submitted charge-sheet against Dr Ismail Sheikh, an activist of Hizbul Tehrir, who was arrested on charge of distributing prohibited pamphlets. Accepting the charge-sheet on Monday, Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti-terrorism court referred the case to ATC-III for trial. -PPI
