HYDERABAD: Class X exam results - Three girls of same school share 1st position

HYDERABAD, July 26: It is for the first time in the history of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, that three girl students of the same school are sharing the first position in the secondary school certificate part-II (class-X) science group annual examination 2004.

The board announced the results here on Monday. Among girl students, Faiza, daughter of Abdur Razzaq, Jawaria Khan, daughter of Wahab Khan, and Umaima, daughter of Saleem Raza, all students of the St. Michael Girls Convent High School, Mirpurkhas, share the first position with 778 marks each.

Sumaiya Siddiqui, daughter of Haris Siddiqui, of the Falcon House Grammar High School, Hyderabad, and Ramsha Durrani, daughter of Akbar Khan, of the Foundation Public School, Latifabad-2, have secured the second and third position with 773 and 771 marks, respectively.

The girl students on the whole have outclassed boys in the examination. Among boy students, Ansar Shah, son of Syed Anwar Hussain, of the Cadet College, Petaro, secured the first position with 771 marks while Umer Majid Virk, son of Majid Virk, of the same college secured the second position with 769 marks.

The third position has gone to Asif, son of Mohammad Munir, of the Cadet College, Sanghar, who obtained 768 marks. A total number of 48,595 candidates, including 17,049 girl students, appeared in the examination out of which 42,340 students, including 14,581 girl students, were declared passed in all subjects.

The percentage of successful candidates is 86.73 per cent. The result of 189 students has been withheld by the conduct branch and of four students for copying in the examination.

The board also announced schedule of supplementary examination of science/general groups who have been declared failed in the annual examination 2004. The examination forms without late fee will be accepted upto Aug 19 while with the late fee of Rs100, Rs200, Rs300 and Rs500 the last date has been fixed as Aug 29, Sept 7, Sept 18 and Sept 27, respectively.

The examination fee for the science group has been fixed as Rs420, general group (regular) Rs380 and general group (private) Rs430. The examination form fee is Rs15.

MUET: Unsuccessful students of the 93-batch of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, who have been on hunger strike for the last 82 days on Monday called off their hunger strike on the intercession of university professors.

The dean of the faculty of engineering, Dr Abro, the dean of the faculty of technology, Prof Rafique Abro, director student welfare, Prof Shahnawaz Chandio and Atta Memon met with leaders of the students action committee and promised that justice would be restored to them.

The leader of the action committee, Imran Tunio, told newsmen that a meeting of academic heads would be convened on Aug 7 to decide the fate of unsuccessful students. He said the professors had assured that failure students would be given 200 grace marks. He warned that if justice was not restored, the students reserved the right to resort to extreme measures.
