PESHAWAR, July 26: The Peshawar High Court on Monday granted bail to an alleged robber who was charged with killing a driver and stealing his truck.

Justice Tariq Pervez directed that the accused-petitioner, Imtiaz Khan, should be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs100,000 each.

According to the prosecution, on March 24, 1998, in Swabi two persons had fired at a truck which had resulted in the death of the driver. The truck owner, Saeeduz Zaman, who was with the driver had registered an FIR at Swabi police station mentioning two unidentified persons as the accused.

The FIR was registered under Section 17(3) of the Offence Against Property (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979. Later on, one of the accused persons, Rasool Khan, was arrested who in his confessional statement claimed that his other companion was Imtiaz.

He entered into a compromise with the complainant and was acquitted by the trial court on Nov 24, 1999.
