KARACHI, July 26: The body of a woman, who had fallen into a water line while washing clothes on July 19, was recovered from a water filter plant after a week-long search near Malir Cantonment on Monday.
Edhi sources said that the woman fell into the damaged water pipeline while washing clothes near Dumba Goth in Gulzar-i-Hijri on last Monday morning. The line was damaged reportedly by the area people to obtain water illegally.
Following her disappearance, area people and Edhi volunteers launched a search for her body. They checked 15 different points of the pipeline, but, the could not find the body.
On Monday morning, area residents saw her body floating in the water filter plant near the cantonment area. Subsequently, they informed the Edhi volunteers, who recovered the body and shifted it to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The postmortem report has been reserved by the medico-legal officer.
ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in accidents on Monday. Police said that Fahad, 16, died when his vehicle apparently went out his control and fell on the lower track of the Shaheed-i-Millat Road late Sunday night. He was taken to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police believed that the accident occurred due to over- speeding. In a hit-and-run accident, an unidentified young man died on main Clifton Road near the Mid East Hospital on Monday. Police shifted the body to the JPMC for legal formalities. Police said the victim appeared a heroin addict from his appearance.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead in Lyari on Monday. Police said that Din Mohammad, 26, was passing through the Gul Mohammad Lane within Chakiwara police limits when unidentified persons shot at him and fled.
Later, the victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he died during treatment. The victim was reported to be an employee of the city government. Police suspected the killing was result of the ongoing gang war which had dampened due to Jehanabad operation.
ARRESTED: A police official was arrested for committing a dacoity in North Nazimabad. Police said that an armed man barged into a house, located in North Nazimabad's Block-F within the limits of Sharah-i-Noor Jehan police station.
After depriving Mrs Mehrun Nisa of jewellry, the suspect fled on his motorcycle. Coincide-ntally, her husband also arrived at the same time. He chased the suspect and hit the motorbike with his car near police station.
Police arrested the suspect and recovered a TT pistol and jewellry from his possession. The suspect was later identified as Amin, wireless operator of the Sir Syed police station.
KIDNAPPED: A woman lodged an FIR at the Airport police station against her relatives for allegedly kidnapping her daughter. The complainant, Sabah, stated that her daughter, Farah, 14, was kidnapped near Falaknaz building on Sharea Faisal while she was coming to the Hotel Avari Towers on July 24. She nominated her brother, Faisal Abbasi, and Farah's grandparents for kidnapping her and demanding Rs4.5 million as ransom.
