Pakistan asked to collect Kargil bodies
NEW DELHI, July 26: India wants to hand over the bodies of more than 100 Pakistani soldiers who died in the May 1999 conflict in Kargil, Indian occupied Kashmir, it was reported Monday.
The bodies were unclaimed and buried unhonoured in the Kargil mountains. The Indian army said it arranged for imams to perform the last rites.
The army said it wants these soldiers "who fought bravely", to be recognised by their country and have their relatives pay their last respects, The Hindu newspaper reported.
Pakistan took back only five bodies after the conflict ended. India said it has proof of identity for all the buried soldiers. -dpa
