10 killed in Kashmir violence

SRINAGAR, July 25: At least 10 people were killed in separate incidents of violence in occupied Kashmir, police said on Sunday. A paramilitary trooper was killed and three others injured on Sunday when freedom fighters ambushed a patrol with rifle fire and grenades in Chadoora township in Budgam, a police spokesman said.

The area was a "stronghold" of Hizbul Mujahideen, the spokesman added. A gunbattle in Anantnag district between guerillas and Indian troops left a fighter and a civilian dead on Sunday, he said, adding another civilian was shot dead overnight allegedly by militants in the same district.

In Pulwama, police said armed men beheaded an unidentified person. Indian troops shot dead four militants in three separate gun battles in the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Poonch late on Saturday, police said. A Muslim civilian was shot dead allegedly by militants in Baramulla district overnight, police said. -AFP
