DHAKA, July 25: An electoral inquiry committee on Sunday asked Bangladesh's leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina Wajid to appear before the committee on charge of violating electoral code of conduct in a parliamentary by-election in Gazipur district.
The letter issued by the inquiry committee, asked Hasina to appear in person, or by a representative, before it on Monday to explain her position about the complaint.
The committee issued the letter after the BNP candidate in the by-election complained that Hasina allegedly violated the code of conduct by means of using government protocol and a car bearing national flag while addressing an election meeting of her party candidate the day before. The by-election is scheduled for August 1.
