MIRPURKHAS, July 22: A 12-year-old boy died in the paediatrics ward of the civil hospital here due to non-availability of doctors on Wednesday.
The boy, Om Parkash, son of Lelo Bheel, was brought from Umerkot in serious condition and was admitted to the paediatrics ward. He died after one hour.
Mr Bheel told journalists that when he brought his son to the hospital, no doctor was available at the ward. He said oxygen cylinders and medicines were also not available.
Over 200 people, including the deceased's relatives, residents of Rana Jagir, Umerkot, and attendants of indoor patients, gathered in the hospital premises and raised slogans against the civil surgeon and doctors. Carrying the body, they also held a protest demonstration.
Talking to the protesters, human rights activist Kanjimal demanded that higher authorities should order a judicial inquiry into the matter.
DECLINE IN WATER THEFT: A decline has been witnessed in water theft cases at the tail-end of the Nara Canal command area following deployment of Rangers.
Rangers' personnel conducted raids at different places and found distributaries and watercourses tampered with.
Landlords who had tampered with the channels repaired the same after being warned of action by the Rangers' personnel.
