Indian side made 'significant' proposals

By Q.A.

ISLAMABAD, July 21: The Indian High Commission here on Wednesday listed the 'significant' proposals New Delhi had made at the Saarc Council meeting.

According to a press note issued by the High Commission, the proposals were: setting up of a South Asian parliamentary forum, establishment of a Saarc high economic council formed with the finance and commerce ministers of the member countries, setting up of a Saarc infrastructure fund to fund major infrastructure projects, setting up of national committees in member countries mandated to monitor and devise programmes to implement the goals of Saarc Social Charter; and to give Youth Award for 'dedicated community services in the field of TB and/or HIV/AIDS'.

"All Saarc member countries emphasized the need to put an end to the scourge of terrorism and welcomed the offer of Bangladesh to host a ministerial meeting on cooperation among Saarc countries on combating terrorism and trans-national crimes," the press note said.
