Permission sought for extra player

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, July 19: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to get permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for sending a 15-member 'A' team to Kenya next month instead of a 14-man squad.

Under the ICC rules, only 14 players can be fielded in a tournament. Pakistan will take part in a three-nation tournament also involving India 'A' and the hosts. The selectors will announce the team on July 24, but it had finalized the following 14-member squad:

Salman Butt, Taufiq Umar, Naved Latif, Misbahul Haq, Faisal Iqbal, Kamran Akmal, Qaiser Abbas, Mansoor Amjad, Riaz Afridi, Rao Iftikhar, Zahid Saeed, Naveed Qureshi, Junaid Zia and Bazid Khan.

If the ICC gave approval to the PCB's request, young batsman Shahid Yousuf or left-arm paceman Mohammad Khalil could be the 15th player.
