HYDERABAD, July 19: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has again rejected the parliamentary committee on water headed by Senator Nisar Memon, saying that he does not represent people of Sindh and they have held many demonstrations against him.
In a statement issued here on Monday , the party chairman, Dr Qadir Magsi, who is also the provincial president of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations' Movement, said that due to strong opposition from the people of Sindh to the Kalabagh and other big dams, the rulers were now depending on reports of the water committee.
He said that the Sindh people would never accept any decision based on the reports of the parliamentary committee. He reminded the government that the decision of the Sindh people on the water issue and construction of dams was unequivocal.
He reiterated that the Kalabagh dam was meant to benefit only one province and added that no dam over the Indus by whatever name was acceptable to the people of Sindh.
Dr Magsi said that a particular province, for the last 150 years, had violated different water accords and taken more than its share of waters of the River Indus. He said that due to the theft of water, rich land of Sindh had been rendered barren and the people economically ruined.
