Shaukat's bona fides challenged

By Our Correspondent

LAHORE, July 19: Advocate M D Tahir has filed an application with the Lahore High Court seeking an early hearing of a writ petition through which he challenged the bonafides of Mr Shaukat Aziz as a citizen of Pakistan and requested that he should be disqualified as a candidate to a National Assembly seat from Attock.

He filed the petition (M D Tahir vs the Election Commission of Pakistan) on July 16. In the application on Monday, Mr Tahir said the petition had neither been fixed for hearing nor mentioned in the objection list displayed so far.

He submitted that the LHC's Rawalpindi bench had entertained petitions on the same subject and decided them with the observation that such issues could be agitated.

Mr Tahir submitted that Shaukat Aziz was a foreign national and took dictation from another country violating the sovereignty of the state. He said his appointment as the prime minister would be dangerous for Pakistan.
