KARACHI, July 18: Water supply to various areas of the city was disrupted on Sunday as frequent power failures affected pumping stations. Karachi Water and Sewerage Board sources said the schedule of water supply to various localities was affected as the pumping stations were hit by power failures.

They said power supply to different pumping stations was disrupted twice on Sunday. The localities which suffered most due to short supply of water included different blocks of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, parts of the old city area, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Malir and Khokhrapar.

Complaints of persisting water shortage were also received from the residents of Clifton's Block 2, Gizri, Mehmoodabad No.6, Jehangir Quarters, Garden East and Kharadar.

They complained that acute water shortage had persisted in their areas for a couple of months but the KWSB officials concerned had not taken measures to restore normal supply. They said they had either to purchase water from private tankers at exorbitant rates or consume unhygienic subsoil water.
