Published July 19, 2004

LARKANA, July 18: Speakers at a function held here on Sunday paid tribute to the late journalist, Faqeer Mohammad Lashari, for his services in the field. The Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Barani Mughiri branch, had organized the programme to mark the 19th death anniversary of Mr Lashari.

Dr Arbab Khuhawar presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khuhawar, Ammnullah Shaikh, Sarkash Sindhi, Aziz Abbasi, Inayat Memon, Jahangir Abbasi, Karim Baluch and others said contributions of the late Lashari could not be forgotten in the history of journalism in Sindh.

They said Mr Lashari had discovered new avenues in Sindhi journalism and introduced new trends after the 1983 MRD campaign. Being politically aware, the speakers said, Mr Lashari had fought for rights of Sindh and journalists. The speakers were critical of the government's alleged moves to curb freedom of expression.

PROTEST: Residents of Dokri on Sunday took to the streets to protest against prolonged electricity load-shedding in the town and its adjacent villages.
