Ganguly calls for improved showing
DAMBULLA, July 17: Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly said on Saturday his side will need to improve despite opening their Asia Cup campaign with victory over United Arab Emirates.
India were reduced to 65-3 before eventually cruising to a 116-run win.
"We were a bit rusty to start with but managed to put up a good score in the end," said Ganguly, who hit 56.
"We need to get better in all three aspects. This is our first game after three months and I hope we get better in our game against Sri Lanka."
UAE were skittled for 144 in 35 overs, 34 of their runs coming from extras.
But Ganguly was unconcerned about the form of his bowlers. "They were trying a few things, trying to pick up wickets with attacking fields," he said.
"Obviously when you play against a better side you will be more disciplined."
UAE coach Syed Abid Ali praised his team but admitted there was room for improvement in their batting.
"It is their first exposure to international arena and they did extremely well in bowling and fielding," he said.
"They restrained Indian team that has been doing so well. There are certain things that we have to work upon. We will work on them and grow as a team."-Agencies
