PSF unveils mascot for world junior

ISLAMABAD, July 16: Air Chief Marshal Kalim Saadat, who is also president of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), on Friday unveiled mascot for the World Junior squash championship, to be held on Aug 18-28.

According to the organizers, the design of the tournament mascot is based on the squash ball and a bubbly character of a junior, in keeping with a popular saying "the more mascot interacts with the public, the more public becomes a part of the event".

The PSF president said an organising committee was being constituted headed by senior vice-president PSF, Air Marshal Rashid Kalim, which will handle the matters related with the Aug 18-28 event.

To provide online results and information to the distant audience, PSF official said they had launched a website (www.worldjunior2004.paksquash.com). Besides, the website would also disseminate information about Islamabad, its hotels, environment, tourist resorts, etc. he added.

Squash legend Jahangir Khan inaugurated the website and hailed PSF's steps for the promotion of the game. "PSF is doing a tremendous job to construct new squash complexes as well as renovate the existing infrastructure in the country," Jahangir said.

He hoped PSF's "tremendous" efforts would help regain Pakistan's lost glory in squash. Later, to reporters' queries, the PSF president said Lahore and Karachi would also host the championships of this kind in future.

He dispelled the impression that there was any rift in the federation, saying PSF was making all-out efforts for the promotion of squash as a national duty. -APP
