KARACHI: 72 teams to monitor working of schools
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, July 16: At least 72 monitoring teams would be set up to check and verify education sector reforms. The teams would look into the affairs of school management committees, supply of textbooks, scholarship cheques and other grants and funds.
This was stated at a meeting of the education officials on Friday in which guidelines for heads of schools and district officers and assistant district officers were issued to be followed by the schools in future.
At the meeting, the schools were asked to submit their demands for posting of peons, chowkidars, sweepers, gardeners, drawing-teachers, physical training instructors and computer operators at the earliest.
The officials were further asked to submit a list of doctors, working under school health services, their place of posting and performance report. The executive district officer education, Gul Muhammad Hajano, who handed over the guidelines to the officials, asked the heads of schools to ensure that teachers and students report for education and teaching at the right time after summer vacations on Aug 1.
Assembly should be held at schools, wherein presence of students, teachers and principals would be a must. He required that principals, heads and teachers should wear gowns, while students should come in a dignified uniform.
The secondary and higher secondary schools were also asked to ensure punctuality, discipline and cleanliness, among students after reopening of schools after summer vacations.
The schools were also asked to pay attention to plantation, hoisting of a dignified Pakistani flag, installation of dignified and significant sign-board at each school.
The EDO hoped that teachers and officers would make coordinated efforts to restore the reputation of government-run secondary schools. "We should try to make our educational institutions sources of pride for our students and their parents in all respect", he said.
He also discussed with the officials about the nomination of focal persons for privately-managed schools on town basis. The school heads were also asked to move for new telephone and electricity connections or their restoration on priority basis.
